Why Hire a Handyman?

As a person who has been in this business for several years, one of the most often asked questions I get is "why should I hire a handyman?"

The short answer is you don't have to, there's no reason you probably can't do a project on your own.

Right?

Unfortunately, not all the time. Many times, I have been pulled into projects that began as a DIY but ended up as a HDI (Handyman Did It).

My top ten list of why you should hire a handman is as follows:

  1. Time...there's 24 hours in each day, and we all do a good job to pack the most into those hours. How do you want to spend your free time? Tackling a long over-do project or spending time with your friends and family doing the things you enjoy doing. Time is becoming a rare commodity these days, make sure you use it wisely.

  2. Tools...do you have the proper tools to complete the project? Often, if special tools or materials are needed, by the time those are purchased, that can be quite an expense. Quite often, these tools that you just bought may only be used for that specific project, and the rest of the time will sit in a toolbox collecting dust.

  3. Talent...do you have the talent to complete the project? Are you mechanically inclined? Are you experienced in the area of the project - ie plumbing, construction, electrical etc.? Many times, it doesn't take long to realize you are in over your head, so before you begin, be certain that you feel you are comfortable with the undertaking. The "learn as you go" mindset might be an expensive lesson.

  4. Safety...this is an area that is many times overlooked but shouldn't be! Working with power tools, electricity, chemicals and such requires a person to be careful and knowledgeable so injuries can be avoided.

  5. Quality of work...you will definitely notice the difference between an ordinary person's work and a handyman's work. The finished project will say it all! If you want the project to meet your high standards, it makes sense to hire a person who has that level of craftsmanship.

  6. Advice...speaking from experience, I have expert advice from my past experiences and projects - some that I have learned the hard way! Experience is a great teacher, and the experience of a handyman may save you time, money and heartache...

  7. Versatile...many times a project has started out one way, and for various reasons it takes a few twists and turns. It's helpful to have a handyman that can make the pivots needed, and keep the project on track, and deliver the quality that is expected, despite the challenges along the way.I

  8. Stress Factor...there's enough stress to go around these days. When tackling a DIY project that is outside your comfort zone or field of expertise, and that will undoubtedly cause more stress in your life. If you hire a handyman, that stress is on them, and most often, if he is an expert in the area of repair, it will be a stress-free project.

  9. City codes...often there are codes mandating home repair work. Did you know there are city codes and permits around installing an outdoor shed? If you live in a development, there may be HOA rules, and before you dig, you should make sure you don't dig someone's underground utility line. Most people don't have knowledge (or want to) about the myriad of rules and regulations regarding home improvements/repairs but guess what? An experienced handyman will!

  10. Cost effective...some people think that if they don't hire a handyman, they can save money. I hope this helps to see the money, time, and effort that is spent that might be better spent on an experienced handyman that guarantees the project and is licensed and insured.

I hope I have given you some things to think about before taking on that next project!

If you are looking for an experienced, licensed and insured craftsman that takes pride in and delivers a high-quality finished product, I'd love to help!
