How To Thaw Frozen Pipes

We knew it was coming!

Winter in Iowa.

It's cold, windy and brutal!

And it has arrived in a big way this week.

While extremely cold temperatures can be hard on many components of your home, a common home repair or maintenance issue that is experienced in these really cold temperatures is frozen pipes.

If not handled correctly, it can cause more issues and damage from a burst pipe can cost thousands of dollars.

Not to mention the huge mess you will be cleaning up.

So, again, the key is to be pro-active and use some preventative maintenance by checking out your pipes and doing what you need to do to keep the problem from escalating into a much bigger concern.

Trust me, you don't want your pipes to burst, especially in subzero temperatures.

I've checked out various videos on You Tube, and I believe this one from our friends at Ace Hardware does a really good job of educating us on how to look for, and safely fix those pipes that are susceptible to freezing.

Spoiler alert - a blow torch is not what you want to be using for this!

Please take a few minutes to take a look, and if you know someone who is being challenged with this, please feel free to share it with them.

I hope this helps all of you, as we get through this cold snap.

Bundle up, stay warm, and you know what they say...if you don't like the weather in Iowa, just wait...it will change!

Hopefully that change happens soon!
